About Me

Edinson Zapata-Castrillon MBACP

My name is Edinson, and I am an experienced counsellor working with both individuals and couples, offering a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space to explore emotional, psychological, and relational difficulties. My clinical experience includes supporting clients experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, stress, trauma, bereavement, loss, relationship difficulties, and identity-related challenges. I have significant experience working with individuals who have experienced sexual abuse, both in childhood and adulthood, and I approach this work with sensitivity and care, recognising the long-term emotional, relational, and psychological impact of such experiences. My approach is trauma-informed and carefully paced, prioritising safety, choice, and empowerment. I also support clients navigating life transitions, work-related pressures, and long-standing emotional patterns, helping them develop greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and resilience.

My therapeutic approach is integrative and client-centred, with particular experience in working with couples using Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). EFT is an evidence-based, attachment-informed model that helps couples understand and change negative interaction cycles, strengthen emotional bonds, and create greater safety and connection within their relationship. Alongside EFT, I draw on relational, psychodynamic, attachment-informed, and mindfulness-based approaches to tailor therapy to the specific needs of each individual or couple. I place strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship, working collaboratively to build trust and provide a consistent and supportive environment in which meaningful and lasting change can take place.

I also have experience working with addiction and addictive behaviours, including alcohol and drug misuse, as well as co-dependency. My work includes supporting clients experiencing difficulties related to food, gambling, internet use, sex, smoking, and work addiction, either directly or through the impact of a loved one’s addiction. I understand addiction within a wider emotional and relational context, recognising its links with trauma, attachment difficulties, shame, and self-worth. Whether working with individuals or couples, I offer a compassionate, thoughtful, and professional therapeutic service, supporting clients to build insight, strengthen relationships, and move towards greater emotional wellbeing.

"Providing support and guidance to help you navigate life's challenges. Together, we can work towards a healthier and happier you."

FAQ

What is counselling?

Counselling, also called psychotherapy, is the process of meeting with a therapist to resolve problematic behaviours, beliefs, feelings, relationship issues, and/or somatic responses (sensations in the body). Beginning therapy can be a big step toward being the healthiest version of yourself and living the best life possible—no matter what challenges you may be facing. Through therapy, you can change self-destructive behaviours and habits, resolve painful feelings, improve your relationships, and more.

How effective is Counselling?

Therapy helps you gain a different perspective on problems and issues. Therapy provides a safe, non-judgemental and respectful environment. Counselling can help you regain wellbeing and balance in your life. Counselling often makes clients think more clearly and make better decisions

What are the benefits of counselling?

Counselling can help you reflect and make sense of difficult life events and find a way to move forward. Some of the benefits can include:

Talking to someone neutral, outside of your immediate situation, can show you a different perspective and help you find a way forward.

Talking with a trained counsellor who is skilled at listening can help you to process difficult thoughts and feelings.

Sharing your worries helps you feel less alone with the problem.

You can gain a better understanding of yourself and a clearer sense of what you want and need.

You can practice communicating more clearly and honestly in the safety of the counselling relationship.

Counselling can help improve your relationships and your ability to communicate.
